Business Situation​

Precision Source Manufacturing is a rapidly growing company that excels in producing custom electronic components. However, their sales process is being held back by a significant bottleneck: the quoting process for custom orders. Currently, when a customer submits a Bill of Materials (BOM), the sales team must embark on a slow, manual journey to generate a quote. This involves manually cross-referencing the customer's part descriptions with the internal Product Information Management (PIM) system to find matching components, then checking various supplier portals and internal systems for real-time pricing and inventory data. The quoting process is slow and impacts order delivery time, requiring a person to manually check supplier pricing and inventory across multiple systems to build a quote.

Use Case​

In this lab, you will build an AI-powered solution that transforms Precision Source Manufacturing's multi-week manual quoting process into an automated workflow that delivers quotes in minutes. You will create a functional Quote Parts Agent that:

  1. Receives a customer's Bill of Materials (BOM) in various formats as input
  2. Uses available APIs to intelligently query the PIM and Parts systems
  3. Accurately matches the customer's requested parts with the internal product catalog
  4. Consolidates all retrieved information—including part numbers, descriptions, pricing, and availability
  5. Generates a structured and accurate quote in CSV format
  6. Highlights any parts from the BOM that could not be matched, ensuring transparency

Build the secure foundation for AI-powered support by creating API Tools that expose parts data from ERP and PIM systems.

Activity 2: Building an AI Agent​

Assemble your Quote Parts Agent by defining its profile, tasks, and guardrails.

  • Define and automate the agent's goals and tasks using low-code configuration
  • Build in responsibility by applying guardrails to protect sensitive data
  • Test and iterate fast by validating logic with interactive prompts

Close the loop by embedding the agent into business processes that trigger integrations.
