Business Situation​

Welcome to Connect-All Logistics, a rapidly growing third-party logistics (3PL) provider. Connect-All's success depends on its ability to quickly and efficiently onboard new suppliers, customers, and carriers into its digital ecosystem. The primary method for this data exchange is through Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).

Retailer ABC onboards thousands of new suppliers every quarter. Each trading partner requires configuration, document validation, and communication setup before business transactions can begin. Currently, when a new partner sends their sample EDI X12 document, an integration specialist must manually read through the file, identify key information like interchange IDs and contact details, and then painstakingly re-enter all of this data into dozens of fields in the Boomi platform to create the Trading Partner component.

Solution​

An AI-powered onboarding agent that automates partner data validation, configures EDI documents and communication protocols, and orchestrates mappings to accelerate go-live. This reduces errors, speeds up time-to-value, and enables faster collaboration.

Use Case​

In this lab, you will build an EDI Trading Partner Onboarding Agent that fully automates the trading partner creation process. This intelligent agent will:

  1. Accept a raw EDI X12 document as text input
  2. Intelligently parse the document to extract all necessary variables (ISA Control Info, GS Control Info, contact details, etc.)
  3. Dynamically generate the precise XML payload required by the Boomi Platform API
  4. Use the API to automatically create the new Trading Partner component in the correct folder
  5. Confirm that the creation was successful

By the end of this lab, you will have constructed an agent that converts a slow, error-prone manual task into an intelligent, automated, and near-instantaneous workflow.

The AS2 ID, certificates, and partner URL will still need to be entered manually as the agent does not allow for attachments at this time.

Workshop Structure​

This hands-on lab is divided into three parts, guiding you through the complete implementation of an EDI Trading Partner Onboarding Agent.

Part 1: Create Tools​

Part 2: Create Agent​

Assemble your AI agent from task to trusted assistant. You'll use low-code to set goals and tasks that free humans for high-value work, apply guardrails to protect sensitive data and ensure safe ethical use, and validate logic with interactive prompts to innovate at speed.

Part 3: Test the Agent​

Put your EDI Trading Partner Onboarding Agent to the test by submitting a real EDI X12 document and verifying that the trading partner is successfully created in your Boomi Platform.
